Belarus holds tightly-controlled elections following arrests of opposition figures
Belarusians are headed to the polls for tightly-controlled parliamentary elections. They're expected to result in a another big win for parties loyal to longtime-leader Alexander Lukashenko. In the run-up to the vote, authorities have arrested dozens of opposition figures. Lukashenko is keen to avoid a repeat of the unprecidented demonstrations against his rule that followed the 2020 presidential election.
